Many PHP developers assume that building a mobile app means starting over: learning Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android, and maintaining two separate codebases. For years that assumption was mostly true, and it kept a lot of capable web teams from ever shipping a mobile product.
NativePHP for Mobile changes that equation. It lets you run a full PHP application directly on a phone, with no web server required, using the Laravel skills you already have.
PHP Running on the Device, Not on a Server
NativePHP for Mobile embeds a pre-compiled PHP runtime alongside Laravel inside a native iOS or Android app. Your application code is executed by that embedded engine on the phone itself. It currently bundles PHP 8.4, in custom builds made specifically for mobile platforms.
This is a different approach from wrapping a hosted website in a shell. Because the app runs locally, it can work offline, and your users aren’t dependent on a round trip to your server for every screen.
One Codebase, Two Platforms
The project is made up of a Laravel application, the nativephp/mobile Composer package, the custom PHP build, and the native Swift and Kotlin shells. You build your Laravel app as you normally would and add native functionality where you need it. The package handles installing and running the apps through Artisan commands such as native:install and native:run, run once for each platform you target.
You don’t need to learn Swift or Kotlin to ship, and a single codebase covers both iOS and Android. For a business that already has a Laravel team or an existing Laravel product, that can mean a much shorter path from idea to working mobile app.
Real Native Features and Native UI
A mobile app is only useful if it can reach the device. NativePHP exposes native capabilities through Laravel-style APIs, including the camera, push notifications, biometrics, and geolocation. Version 4 goes further and lets you build native interfaces from Blade components that render as real native views, rather than relying only on a web view.
There is also Jump, a companion dev client for iOS and Android. You scan a QR code and run your Laravel project on your own phone without rebuilding or going through an app store, which makes the development loop much faster.
If you’re wondering whether your web application, or a new product idea, could become a native mobile app without rebuilding your team around a new stack, it’s worth a conversation. I build custom PHP and Laravel solutions, and I can help you evaluate whether NativePHP is the right fit for your project, so reach out if you’d like a second opinion.
